Asparagus Officinalis, Garden Asparagus





Upright plants are ssp officinalis, the garden variety, an escape from cultivation; the native wild variety, always prostrate, is ssp prostratus, found on cliffs along the southwest coasts. The two are sometimes considered to be separate species.
