Most species in the the caprifoliaceae (caper, or honeysuckle) family are shrubs or small trees, but some are herbs; all have alternate leaves and flowers formed of a tubular corolla opening to five lobes, containing five stamens and between two and five pistils. Flowers are usually clustered. There are about a dozen British Isles species.
