Forked, flat-topped clusters. Flowers, up to 15 mm in diameter, have between six and nine yellow lobes and the same number of stamens. The calyx is deeply divided into long, linear lobes, twisted in bud. Flowers tend to open fully only in bright sunshine

Basal leaves are obovate, in a rosette, while stem leaves are perfoliate; fused pairs, pointed and often upturned at the tip. All are hairless, grey-green, with a waxy surface
