The hydrocharitaceae (frogbit family) is a group of around 135 species, in 16 genera. All are aquatic plants with submerged or floating leaves and bracted flowers of three petals and three sepals. Leaves are undivided, varying in shape from round to linear. The UK has just two native species (frogbit and water-soldier), plus a few which are naturalised, some originating as discarded aquarium plants.
