The calyx is divided to the base into five equally-sized lobes, covered with glandular hairs, as is the (leafless) stem. Flowers are solitary, one per stem

Basal; yellow-green, with reddish-purple veins, and a covering of glandular hairs on the upper surfaces. Around 2 cm long
