Still and slow-moving water, up to 5 m deep
Flowers:
Cup-shaped, up to 6 cm in diameter, formed of five or six large, curved yellow sepals and a ring of up to 20 much smaller yellow petals, above which are a whorl of thick yellow stamens, with a disc of up to 25 radiating stigmas at the centre
Leaves:
Cordate, nearly round in outline, up to 40 cm long, with a leathery surface. Leaves have up to 23 main veins, pinnately arranged, and forking about half way to the margin
