Coastal habitats include beach margins, sand dunes, dune slacks (depressions within dunes that have a higher moisture content), cliffs, sea walls, embankments and grassland. Many plants here are adapted to tolerate higher than usual levels of salt, and/or the generally dry, often exposed locations. Saltmarsh is a related coastal habitat.
